About The Position

This position works under the general direction of the assistant director for Finance and has the responsibility to provide for the fiscal management of TRIO, Title IV, elementary and secondary outreach programs, and GEAR UP programs for the Center for Academic Enrichment and Outreach. This position will play a major role in the development, analysis and execution of budgets, which are used to allocate current resources and estimate future financial requirements. The budget coordinator is responsible for budget forecasting and planning, expense analysis, travel, match tracking, and financial reporting and will help to ensure that the day-to-day financial functions of the Center are conducted in an efficient and effective manner. This position is responsible for assisting the assistant director in developing, negotiating and managing departmental budgets and contracts, as well as assisting in directing compliance with guidelines and allocation of resources from funding sources. The budget coordinator will participate in grant writing and reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • 2 years of professional experience
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment
  • Must be able to drive and maintain a valid Nevada driver license
  • Must be able to pass a federal background check/fingerprinting process
  • Applicant must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
  • Must be proficient in the administrative functions of budgeting, planning and fund accounting
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent record keeping and tracking skills, and excellent negotiating techniques

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with grant awards is preferred
  • Knowledge of the TRIO and GEAR UP programs, higher education administration, grant programs, and student services at a major university is imperative to the success of this position
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office, Google Suite, Workday and Anaplan systems, are preferred
  • Experience with zero-based budgeting and EDGAR is also preferred
  • Candidate should have the ability to analyze and manage finances, personnel, projects, and time effectively and efficiently
  • The ability to perform multiple responsibilities or tasks simultaneously, work in a self-directed environment, as well as plan and organize on both a daily and long-term basis is critical
