About The Position

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Child and Family Services Division. The Fiscal Bureau of Child and Family Services Division is responsible for the administration and management of all the financial, accounting and budget responsibilities for the Child and Family Services Division. This position oversees the daily accounting and budgetary functions of the Fiscal Bureau to ensure compliance with department policy, state and federal laws and includes preparing and analyzing budget and financial reports, daily utilization of the Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS), along with legislative requirements. Other duties include researching and providing expenditure controls; analyzing financial fiscal and provider data and payments. The position must be able to interpret and analyze federal regulations as they apply to federal grant funds received by the department and provide recommendations on financial information. Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of budget practices and principles.
  • Ability to understand state and federal rules and regulations related to fiscal and budgetary management.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, economics, or a related field.
  • Six months of job-related experience in finance, auditing, or accounting.
  • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case by case basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience/knowledge of contract and grant administration preferred.
