About The Position

The BTAC Assistant Choreographer will assist in the choreography of BTAC Productions, working closely with the Faculty Choreographer and Director. This Assistant will help in leading dance rehearsals, developing musical staging, dance and choreography, as well as working with the performers of the given production. The Assistant Choreographer will learn to and help to create a positive rehearsal environment for the given production to cultivate creativity and productivity. The Assistant Choreographer is expected to work 10 hours a week including class time, rehearsals, meetings and additional admin work/planning. During Tech and Show week this will extend to 20 hours per week. Class times are Tuesday 8-10 and Thursday 7-9, Also need to meet 2 hours for preparation of choreography determined between Director and Choreographer , 4/26, 4/27 4/28 Mandatory Tech and Show dates

Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.
  • Looking for a student with great dance technique skills in various contemporary styles, plus ballet.
  • The student must be familiar with Musical Theater choreography history and be able to help facilitate choreography and drama with larger groups of students in collaboration with the directors.

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to work with some students one on one and assist them in coaching dance.

Responsibilities

  • Creating dance rehearsal plans.
  • Being the dance captain for all the big production numbers
  • Creating choreography where assigned
  • Working with individuals to help them improve their choreography when assigned
  • Work with the Director and Choreographer in developing the dance aspects of the show.
  • Working closely with student performers, either in rehearsals or one-on-one.
  • Working closely with the Production Manager and Stage Manager to ensure that rehearsals are on schedule.
  • Working closely with the Music Director to make sure the dances and the music line up
  • This includes all aspects of production, pre-production as student may sometimes work in the semesters preceding the show to prepare as well as in the semester of the show to help produce the show (but not always)
