About The Position

Beatrice State Developmental Center (BSDC) is seeking a dedicated and dependable Housekeeper/Custodian to join our team. In this role, you will help maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as for staff and visitors. This position plays a critical role in supporting health, safety, and quality of life for those we serve. Requirements

• No specific education, training, or experience is required for entry into this position.

Nice To Haves

• 3+ years of custodial or housekeeping experience.
• Experience working at a 24 hour facility.
• Knowledge of: Commercial cleaning practices, equipment, supplies, and techniques
• Standard safety practices related to cleaning equipment, hand tools, and power tools
• Occupational hazards and safety precautions in building maintenance and custodial operations
• Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and cleaning equipment
• Basic computer skills, including use of email and internal systems
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow directions
• Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment safely
• Ability to climb ladders or scaffolding to perform work above ground level
• Ability to read and comprehend reference materials, manuals, and instructions

Responsibilities

• Care and maintenance of carpeted and hard surface flooring, including vacuuming, shampooing, dry and wet mopping, buffing, stripping, and applying surface sealants
• Disposal of trash and recyclables from residential, program, and staff areas
• Cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms, resident rooms, common areas, offices, and other assigned spaces
• Removing, washing, and laundering soiled rags, mop heads, and cleaning equipment as needed
• Inventorying, stocking, and monitoring housekeeping supplies
• Refilling and replacing items in dispensers and receptacles as needed
• Operating industrial-type cleaning equipment in a safe and effective manner
• Following infection control, safety, and sanitation standards
