About The Position

The Bryan Heart Cardiothoracic Advance Practitioner Team Lead provides leadership, direction, and supervision to Advanced Practice Providers within the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. This role involves collaborative patient management under the direction of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Medical Director, managing Surgical APP resources, and promoting teamwork to retain staff. The position requires participation in outstate clinic/case coverage and call responsibilities, as well as clinical oversight of the advanced practitioner team, mentoring staff to ensure compliance with procedures and protocols.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a program for Physician Assistants accredited by the college of medicine and surgery.
  • Current license as a Physician Assistant in the state of Nebraska.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role beneficial.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state.
  • Master of Science degree in Nursing with focus in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska.
  • Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by examination through the National Certification Corporation.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Practice the principal job functions of BH Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Provide clinical oversight of the advanced practitioner team in collaboration with Cardiothoracic Surgery physicians.
  • Serve as the liaison between the APPs and the Cardiothoracic Surgical Services Medical Director.
  • Assist with special projects including quality outcomes and pharmacy projects.
  • Conduct research and collaborate with departments for follow-up and outcomes measurement.
  • Coordinate with device representatives and complete cost analysis documentation.
  • Ensure staff members receive orientation and ongoing educational development.
  • Conduct timely staff performance appraisals and emphasize staff retention strategies.
  • Serve as a member of the cardiothoracic surgery team as a leader and role model.
  • Coordinate orientation activities for new advanced practitioners.
  • Conduct and assist with validation of core job competencies.
  • Plan and lead training and re-training sessions.
  • Conduct APP time card review and approval.
  • Develop relationships with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain professional growth through seminars and workshops.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and department projects.
  • Perform other related projects and duties as assigned.
