About The Position

Under general supervision, to perform heavy manual work involved in the collection of refuse material and in the removal of brush and bulky items from alleys, curb sides, or other designated locations according to established policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Knowledge of: Safe and proper lifting techniques.
• Skill to: Operate a hydraulic compactor unit and hydraulic/air tailgate lift unit.
• Skill to: Operate a chainsaw.
• Skill to: Perform strenuous physical work for long periods of time.
• Ability to: Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to: Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

• Experience in heavy manual work is required.
• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• A valid Texas driver’s license; the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days or a military waiver is preferred.
• Bloodborne Pathogens training and HazCom training are required within sixty (60) days of employment.
• Exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
• Ability to travel to different sites.
• Must be available for shift, on-call, and stand-by work.

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment mechanism for loading, compressing, and dumping refuse material.
• Directs the driver/operator in movement of refuse trucks in alleys and street pick up locations.
• Cut limbs, brush, and related growths, which interfere with the safe movement of vehicles in alleys.
• Pick up and empty refuse containers into vehicles; return containers to original locations.
• Collect loose debris and brush piles as required; load into vehicles.
• Identify defective containers.
• Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned
