The Broadway Spotlight Writing Teaching Artist supports 92NY School Engagement in the Arts by leading high-quality, in-school writing instruction for NYC ELA high school classrooms serving Deaf and hard-of-hearing students as part of the 2026 Broadway Spotlight Program. Teaching Artists lead eight dynamic, in-school classroom sessions per assigned class, guiding students through an active, hands-on exploration of the Broadway musical & Juliet with a focus on writing. Lessons engage students in analyzing the musical and translating their insights into original written work, including creative writing, narrative, and script-based exercises. This role emphasizes delivering rigorous, accessible, and culturally responsive writing instruction that centers students lived experiences. Teaching Artists foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking, supporting learners in producing original writing that reflects artistic growth and a deeper engagement with their field trip experience to go see the Broadway musical & Juliet. Teaching Artists collaborate closely with 92NY staff, classroom teachers, and school administrators to ensure instruction is accessible, culturally responsive, and tailored to each classroom community. Classroom placements are designed to align with the artist’s strengths and expertise to maximize student engagement and learning.
