About the position

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Fiber Optic Broadband Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing fiber optic service drops and performing regular maintenance on fiber optic systems and networks. This role is crucial for ensuring high-quality broadband services to our members by ensuring timely, reliable installations and maintaining optimal network performance. Please note the following: candidates must reside within or be willing to relocate within a 25-mile radius, and this position requires mandatory on-call availability and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate fiber optic cables for service drops at members locations.
  • Perform fiber splicing and testing to ensure proper functionality and signal quality.
  • Ensure proper installation of fiber optic equipment, such as splitters, junction boxes, and connectors.
  • Install and configure broadband network devices (e.g., ONTs, modems, routers) for members use.
  • Conduct routine system and network maintenance, including inspections, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with fiber optic networks and equipment, including signal loss, equipment malfunctions, and system outages.
  • Perform fiber optic cable repairs, re-splicing, and testing when needed.
  • Ensure all system issues are addressed in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of installations, service calls, and maintenance performed.
  • Complete and submit service reports, documenting work done, issues encountered, and resolutions.
  • Update network schematics and customer records to reflect any changes or upgrades to the network.
  • Provide excellent member service by explaining installation procedures, addressing concerns, and answering technical questions.
  • Assist members with troubleshooting basic broadband-related issues when required.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while working with fiber optic cables and network equipment.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of equipment and materials according to environmental and regulatory guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in fiber optic installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic cable, splicing, testing, and network infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with fiber optic testing equipment (e.g., OTDR, power meters, and light sources).
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in all weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with broadband network systems, including GPON, FTTH, or similar technologies.
  • Certification in fiber optics (e.g., FOA CFOT or BICSI).
  • Previous customer service experience.
