About The Position

Verizon recently acquired Frontier and plans to transition non-union Frontier employees into Verizon compensation and benefits programs. This position will be part of that planned transition. Broadband Network Engineer (Telecommunications) What we’re seeking: The Broadband Network Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and supporting high‑capacity telecommunications broadband access networks across fiber, copper, and fixed wireless technologies. This role ensures network reliability, scalability, and service quality for residential and commercial customers while meeting departmental timelines, customer commitments, and regulatory requirements. The engineer supports access platforms such as DSLAMs, OLTs, fixed wireless systems, and associated Ethernet and optical transport. This position works closely with Network Planning, Transport, Central Office, OSP/ISP Engineering and Installation teams, Field Operations, NOC, Sales Engineering, and Project Management to deliver high‑quality broadband solutions and maintain accurate network records. In this in-person role, you will be required to report to our Bloomington, IL location (109 E Market Street, Bloomington, IL) to complete your work responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Strong technical knowledge of broadband access technologies including DSL, VDSL, Vectoring, GPON, XGS PON, Fixed Wireless, and Ethernet.
  • Experience with transport technologies such as SONET, Ethernet, MPLS, CWDM/DWDM, and ROADM systems.
  • Ability to read and create engineering documentation, fiber routes, and equipment configurations.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and engineering support tools.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple assignments.
  • Understanding of telecommunications accounting guidelines and capital project processes.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours to meet project deadlines when required.
  • Must be able to collaborate with cross functional teams across Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Project Management.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support company growth, operational requirements, and evolving business priorities
  • B.S. in Telecommunications Network Engineering or equivalent telecommunications experience (minimum 3-5 years).

Responsibilities

  • Engineer broadband solutions across fiber, copper, and fixed wireless, including ADSL/VDSL, Vectoring, Bonded Copper, GPON/XGS PON, HBE, and Ethernet services.
  • Prepare designs for BAU, Metro E Sold Services, congestion relief, transport augments, and customer specific broadband solutions.
  • Engineer and issue designs for fiber to the home, fiber to the cell, and broadband access technologies.
  • Perform port, facility, and bandwidth planning for broadband access platforms
  • Monitor utilization and initiate congestion relief when thresholds are reached.
  • Decommission and degrow underutilized DSLAM equipment
  • Create engineering work orders (EWOs) for material adds or corrections in M6 inventory.
  • Build projects in Sitetracker and ensure completed documentation is uploaded.
  • Maintain accurate network assets, circuit, and port records across M6, DSLNET, and Sitetracker ensuring intervals are met.
  • Support provisioning teams with element adds, routing validation, and access equipment configuration.
  • Add and update broadband network elements and circuits in DSLNET.
  • Provide engineering support for customer migrations, grooming activities, and system upgrades.
  • Work collaboratively with Transport, Central Office, Field Operations, NOC, Sales, and OSP Engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot broadband impairments and support restoration efforts for access platforms.
  • Provide technical guidance for construction, turn up, and acceptance testing of broadband equipment.
