About The Position

The Briya Adult Education Mental Health Therapist is responsible for the coordination of service delivery to clients with mental health concerns and for providing core services including, but not limited to, diagnosis and assessment, counseling and psychotherapy, community support services, and group activities supporting mental health, awareness, and intervention. This may include providing support and training to teachers and administrators by raising awareness of mental health, supporting students to attend school regularly by reducing barriers to attendance, and making regular connections to Social Services supports. This position serves primarily a Spanish speaking community, and a clinician bilingual in English and Spanish is required. This is a unique clinical position based in a school for adults.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field
  • License (LGPC, LGSW, LPC, LICSW) in the District of Columbia
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish (bilingual required)

Responsibilities

  • Respond to referrals from Briya PCS Student Services team members and other staff and students.
  • Complete intake paperwork for new clients.
  • Complete a diagnostic and psychosocial assessment of all clients referred (including DSM diagnosis), gathering information not only from the client but possibly also from a referral source, client chart and past providers of care. The GAIN-SS and DLA-20 are required parts of the assessment for most clients.
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy to assist clients in reducing symptoms, improving functioning, developing insight and achieving other goals of their treatment plans.
  • Maintain a caseload to complete at least 20 billable, face-to-face client encounters weekly, primarily in-person at school sites, and sometimes virtually.
  • Complete treatment plans (Individual Recovery Plans) and Crisis Plans when necessary, with client and relevant service providers as well as reviewing the IRP every 6 months.
  • Document all contacts, referrals, and other necessary information.
  • Apply crisis-management skills when necessary to stabilize clients.
  • Conduct workshops and presentations about mental health and disorders, stress management, and trauma for teachers, administrators and other staff.
  • Provide workshops and other group interventions for students on stress management, suicide prevention, substance abuse or other concerns deemed pertinent to the needs of Briya’s School Community.
  • Provide consultations for teachers to give guidance and feedback on classroom management for students with mental health disorders and trauma history.
  • Participate in the school support team and other entities to promote the socio-emotional and academic wellness of students.
  • Embrace and integrate the client’s and family’s values and culture into the work with all clients.
  • Explain to potential clients both confidentiality and mandated reporting, as well as other rights and responsibilities that mental health care.
  • Maintain accurate, complete client records that adhere to documentation policies.
  • Complete documentation and billing requirements on a timely basis, preferably within 48 hours.
  • Provide clinical supervision to licensed graduate social workers, interns, and others, as needed or desired, if the client caseload leaves time for this.
  • Understand and apply state and federal confidentiality regulations with regard to clients’ records and correspondence.
  • Maintain simple monthly statistics and provide reports as needed to the supervisor and Clinic Director.
  • Participate in and help facilitate case reviews and treatment-team meetings.
  • Participate in organization-wide and division-wide meetings and committees, departmental meetings and other meetings/conferences as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
