About The Position

Block Tender is responsible for raising and lowering the bridge on demand. The Block Operator must communicate with the Network Operations Center, the Coast Guard, or River Traffic when it is necessary to lower and raise the bridge. Block Operator is not responsible for train movement or any track authority. This position is not covered under the FRA Hours of Service and will perform other duties.

Requirements

• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License.
• Must be able to perform heavy physical labor.
• Must have basic computer and typing competencies.

Responsibilities

• Monitor maritime and railroad traffic to safely operate a moveable bridge to allow the passage of vessels or trains.
• Inspect trailers, tracks, and the intermodal yard.
• Input information into computers and preparing reports, research, review, and record trailer inventory.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Walk and inspect railroad bridge.
• May require outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays.
