About The Position

STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Bridge/Structures Engineering Intern to join our Transportation team in Jacksonville, FL. This internship offers undergraduate and graduate-level civil engineering students the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers while contributing to the design, analysis, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects. Interns will gain exposure to bridge design, rehabilitation, and inspection activities while supporting project teams in both technical and project delivery tasks. This hybrid position requires at least three days per week in the office. Preference will be given to candidates who can participate in the internship for at least three months and are available to work full-time.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or NCEES equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in structural analysis, reinforced concrete, steel design, or bridge engineering.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis or bridge modeling software.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or OpenBridge for drafting and modeling.
  • Understanding of AASHTO and DOT standards related to bridge design and inspection.
  • Exposure to bridge inspection procedures, such as NBIS (National Bridge Inspection Standards).
  • Familiarity with bridge load rating concepts and structural evaluation methods.
  • Basic knowledge of structural materials including steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and timber.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, or Mathcad for engineering calculations and documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and analysis of bridges and transportation-related structures, including retaining walls, culverts, and sign structures.
  • Support bridge rehabilitation and structural evaluation efforts, including assisting with bridge load rating tasks.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and quantity/cost estimates.
  • Support the development of design calculations, technical reports, and engineering documentation.
  • Assist with constructability reviews and coordination with multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Support engineers in the review of shop drawings and contractor Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Assist with quality control reviews of engineering calculations, designs, and inspection documentation.
  • Participate in structural inspections and evaluations of existing bridges and structures, when applicable.
  • Contribute to proposal development and preparation of technical materials for project pursuits.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project teams to support project delivery from concept through construction.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support project goals and team objectives.
