About The Position

Our client is seeking an experienced Bridge Project Manager to join our growing office in Herndon, VA. This role is designed for a senior structural engineer who is ready to transition into a client-facing leadership position, taking full ownership of project oversight and delivery across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic. As a Project Manager, you will lead a diverse portfolio of transportation structure projects, ranging from smaller $5M–$10M efforts to large-scale, regionally significant design-build pursuits. You will serve as the primary point of contact for clients, leveraging your deep technical background to guide engineering teams, manage resources, and ensure the highest quality outcomes without the requirement of daily design production. We are looking for a high-agency leader with a strong technical foundation and the communication skills necessary to represent the firm to major agencies and localities.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with a dedicated focus on Structural Engineering.
  • Experience: 10+ years of bridge and structural design experience, with a clear progression into project management responsibilities.
  • Licensing: Professional Engineer (PE) license is required. Virginia PE is preferred; however, candidates with a PE in another state must be able to obtain Virginia reciprocity shortly after hiring.
  • Communication: Superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex project updates and financial performance to executive leadership and clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience working with VDOT and Virginia local municipalities.
  • Familiarity with diverse delivery methods including Design-Build, Design-Bid-Build, and P3.
  • Proven track record of managing multidisciplinary teams on large-scale transportation infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead bridge and structural projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Act as the primary liaison for clients, managing expectations and building long-term strategic relationships.
  • Provide high-level direction to structural staff, reviewing work, and making critical technical decisions for complex bridge designs.
  • Develop project management and quality control plans, monitor risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Manage subconsultants and multidisciplinary teams to deliver cohesive infrastructure solutions.
  • Support business development through proposal preparation, client interviews, and mentorship of junior staff.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, plus bonus eligibility based on market alignment.
  • A hybrid schedule (3 days in-office, 2 days remote). Remote days are currently set as Wednesday and Friday.
  • Limited relocation assistance and a relocation signing bonus (payable after 90 days of employment) are available for the right candidate.
  • Comprehensive insurance coverage and professional development opportunities to support your path toward becoming a "client champion" or department lead.
  • Eligibility for visa sponsorship is available for this position.
