About The Position

The AECOM North Carolina Transportation team is seeking a Bridge Inspection team assistant to work in the Structures Department. This job involves assisting a certified bridge inspector in the inspection of in-service bridges across North Carolina. Bridge inspectors serve as the first line of defense in helping maintain and preserve America's transportation infrastructure, and serving on an inspection team is a challenging and rewarding career. Performs a variety of tasks in support of the engineering staff, including but not limited to: Assisting in the visual inspection of bridge components such as decks, superstructures, and substructures Taking accurate measurements and photographs of bridge elements Collecting and organizing field data for report preparation Monitors and documents conformance with quality, performance, safety, and/or code requirements: Identifies and reports potential structural deficiencies or safety hazards Ensures compliance with OSHA safety standards and company safety protocols Maintains accurate and detailed inspection records Assists with engineering calculations and data analysis Performs basic structural calculations under supervision Utilizes software tools for data entry and analysis Assists in the preparation of bridge inspection reports and documentation Sets up and operates specialized inspection equipment Operates non-destructive testing equipment as directed Assists in the use of access equipment such as under-bridge inspection vehicles Maintains and calibrates inspection tools and equipment Demonstrates a general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines Adheres to project schedules and timelines Communicates effectively with team members and supervisors Participates in team meetings and contributes to project planning discussions Performs routine duties competently within limits of experience Conducts routine bridge inspections under supervision Assists in the preparation of inspection reports and documentation Participates in ongoing training and professional development activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, or Associate Degree plus 2 years of related experience, or HS/GED plus 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education
  • Due to the projects associated with this position a US Citizenship is required
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently (on average, 10 days per month), including overnight travel, across North Carolina, and occasionally other areas within the southeast.
  • Highway/Bridge Experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a related field, such as, but not limited to construction, surveying, engineering technician, or military.
  • An associates degree in a technical field is preferred but not required
  • Strong written communication skills and be capable of taking accurate notes and preparing quality reports under the supervision of an experienced professional
  • Experience in bridges, either construction, design, detailing, or drafting, is preferred
  • Proficiant with CADD is preferred
