About The Position

We are actively searching for a Bridge Inspector (with an Engineering degree) to join our Raleigh, NC (preferred), Norfolk or Richmond, VA office. As the successful new hire, you will perform bridge inspections. You will join our team which provides inspection services across the State of North Carolina, Virginia and the Southeastern United States. The principal function of this position is to evaluate bridges through above ground engineering inspections. You will utilize Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and National Highway Institute (NHI) criteria while inspecting bridges via buckets, snoopers, boats, ladders, safety harness, and other equipment. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Civil or Structural is strongly preferred
2 to 10 years of bridge inspection experience
NHI/NBIS Team Leader qualifications or the ability to meet the Team Leader qualifications within 6 months is required
FHWA-NHI-130055 certification required
Field requirements are 5 days per week in North Carolina, Virginia or the Southern United States. Hours may vary due to weather or daylight. Some weekends may be required.
Availability and willingness to travel overnight and for approximately 2 weeks per month is required
Willingness to work from Moffatt & Nichol’s Raleigh, NC, Norfolk or Richmond, VA offices on non-field days
Valid driver’s license in good standing
Selected candidate must consent to and pass a post-offer/pre-employment drug screening
All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Responsibilities

Partners with other professionals and departments to gather information for projects
Works collaboratively with all members of the inspection group
Conducts inspections and assists in supervision of site investigations as needed
Utilizes data entry/manipulation and technical writing skills for the preparation and review of inspection reports, proposals, etc.
Provides quality assurance reviews of inspection reports
Performs other duties as required
