About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Bridge Engineer-In-Training (EIT) to join our Structures East Team. This is an entry-level position and is based out of Raleigh, North Carolina. YOUR ROLE Execute drafting‑focused work, producing bridge plans and sheets to learn foundational bridge terminology, components, standards, and how a complete plan set is assembled. Support senior engineers with plan production, detailing, assembling specifications, and performing basic calculations to build hands‑on familiarity with bridge elements and construction requirements. Progress through increasingly advanced design responsibilities, starting with component‑level design, then moving into system‑level analysis, and eventually contributing to full bridge design as skills and professional proficiency grow. Prepare material for reports, including gathering information, writing rough outlines, and assisting with documentation and graphic presentations. Perform data acquisition and analysis, researching the feasibility of alternative design approaches, evaluating site conditions, and reviewing relevant regulatory agency specifications or requirements. Participates in projects involving construction activities by reviewing shop drawings for conformance with easily interpreted specifications; assists in recordkeeping and in generating progress reports; observes relatively simple construction procedures; and collects samples for quality control testing. Performs field observations of construction where appropriate. Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

Requirements

  • 0-2 Years of professional experience in a related technical field is preferred.
  • Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited college/university.
  • Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets or databases.
  • Math skills to perform simple calculations; willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Capability to develop technical writings and reports.
  • Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification is required.
  • Offers will be made contingent upon obtaining EI/EIT certification from licensing board (preferably NCBELS).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree highly desirable.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation (preferred).
