About The Position

GFT is seeking a Bridge Designer to join their Northeast Transportation team in the Marlton, NJ office. The role involves engaging in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity, focusing on resilient, sustainable design and construction for modern, multimodal roadway systems. As a Bridge Engineer, the candidate will be involved in a dynamic mix of bridge engineering assignments across the Northeast region, contributing to the planning, design, and delivery of structure projects. This includes working on multi-span highway overpasses, complex river crossings, pedestrian bridges, and culvert upgrades, applying advanced analysis and geometry work. The position also involves engaging in design-build and accelerated construction projects, collaborating with roadway, geotechnical, and traffic teams, and pioneering solutions for multimodal connectivity and community value. The successful candidate should have a minimum of 4 years of progressive design experience in structural engineering for various bridge and structure types. Responsibilities include plan development, calculations for technical studies, structural design and analysis, load ratings, and quantities. As the engineer grows in the role, they will be encouraged to advance modeling skills, mentor junior engineers, participate in business development, and broaden exposure to large-scale public agency clients. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structures.
  • EIT/FE Certification.
  • 2-4 years of experience in designing roadway infrastructure.
  • Understanding of standard engineering practices, techniques, and applicable codes.
  • Proficiency with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
  • Working knowledge of plan development with CADD (MicroStation and/or AutoCAD).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word for engineering and business applications.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, demonstrate initiative, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Prior experience with New Jersey Department of Transportation and/or New Jersey Turnpike Authority projects preferred including well versed in client design policies, standards and specifications.
  • Experience with Bentley OpenBridge Designer (LEAPSteel), CSiBridge, and AASHTOWare BrR desirable.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to actively engage in multiple perspectives when solving problems, is willing to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in design-build and accelerated construction projects.

  • Perform plan development and calculations of varying degrees of difficulty for a wide variety of assignments that may include technical studies, structural design and analysis for bridges and related structures, load ratings, and quantities.
  • Expand technical reach by advancing modeling skills, mentoring junior engineers, participating in business development opportunities, and broadening exposure to large-scale public agency clients.
  • Perform structural analyses, design, and verification of bridge geometry.
  • Perform bridge load ratings.
  • Develop structure plans for bridges and other transportation structures such as culverts, retaining walls, utility vaults, noise abatement walls, pedestrian bridges, and sign structures.
  • Participate in the development of construction contract documents, such as specifications and cost estimates, and review shop drawings and other construction documents.
