About The Position

We are seeking experienced and safety-conscious Bridge Carpenters to join our construction crew. This position involves the assembly and disassembly of formwork, falsework, and other structural components used in the construction and repair of bridges. Ideal candidates will have experience working on DOT or heavy highway projects and be comfortable working at heights and around heavy equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience.
  • Appropriate training and experience required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and project specifications.
  • Experience in building and setting formwork for bridge decks, piers, abutments, columns, caps, and other components.
  • Ability to install and align falsework and shoring systems.
  • Experience in cutting, fitting, and assembling lumber and plywood for concrete forms.
  • Ability to secure forms and reinforcing steel to meet engineering requirements.
  • Experience in stripping and cleaning forms after concrete placement.
  • Ability to operate carpentry hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights and over water in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Ability to collaborate with crane operators, laborers, and other crew members.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and company safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
  • Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
  • Prepares layout, using rule, framing square, and calipers.
  • Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials, using pencil, chalk, and marking gage.
  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes.
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level.
  • Erects framework for structures and lays subflooring.
  • Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.
  • Covers subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip-block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base.
  • Applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
  • Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letterdrops, and kick plates.
  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
