About The Position

The Bridge Academic Advisor II and Coordinator position encompasses a combination of student services and a leadership role for the ESL/HSD/HSE/ABE instructional programs. The Bridge Academic Advisor II provides student advising, high quality guidance, mentoring, and tools for success in college. This role interprets placement assessments, co-creates comprehensive academic plans, selects courses, and explores transfer options and career pathways. The Bridge Coordinator is responsible for departmental coordination in collaboration with the Bridge Program Director and campus leadership, ensuring successful enrollment and registration for Bridge students. The position requires a high level of independent action and technical knowledge focused on enrollment, registration, administrative and support service duties, as well as some knowledge of academic affairs work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and three years of related experience with a diverse student and adult population; or equivalent education and experience.
  • High School and Post-Secondary experience essential.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of higher education degree requirements and current practices in student services.
  • Ability to provide thoughtful academic, transfer and career advising.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and Spanish well.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of current pedagogical practices and trends in language acquisition and adult basic education.
  • Experience in public speaking and presenting educational workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers academic, career and transfer advising, registration, and general guidance for students under the College’s academic policies and guidelines.
  • Guides students with problem-solving and goal identification.
  • Leads retention and recruitment activities.
  • Keeps detailed and accurate records related to student tracking and reporting.
  • Communicates professionally and confidentially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Works as a cooperating and contributing member of the campus team.
  • Engages in campus collaboration and coordination through maintaining close connections with faculty and academic affairs staff.
  • Helps coordinate campus events such as orientation, success seminars, and campus visits.
  • Facilitates student referrals to mental health services.
  • Supports students in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) pathways.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with local high schools to support partnership pathways.
  • Creates and implements procedures to ensure organizational effectiveness/efficiency.
  • Troubleshoots and problem-solves student or class related issues.
  • Promotes customer service and provides training.
  • Monitors and tracks student attendance and enrollment to evaluate student retention and completion.
