About The Position

We are currently hiring a Brewing Manager in Cincinnati, OH. The Brewing Manager is responsible for establishing management practices for brewing operations at the Ohio Brewery and overseeing all brewing and utility maintenance activities. This role supervises a team of hourly and salaried personnel, ensuring that maintenance support and brewed products meet customer specifications and quality standards. The manager will collaborate with other departments to develop a vision and change plan to elevate brewing operations to world-class levels. They will align strategies related to personnel, service, and costs with the Boston Beer Company's strategic goals. Additionally, the Brewing Manager is accountable for process improvements in areas such as safety, customer service, staffing, inventory, and maintenance reliability. This position reports directly to the Brewery Director at the Samuel Adams Ohio Brewery.

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience in Brewing / Blend with a history of continued development both academically and professionally.
  • Extensive knowledge of brewhouse and cellar operations, prioritizing, knowledgeable, quick decision maker in a fast-paced environment.
  • An in-depth understanding and track record of having delivered operational processes that drive safety, quality, cost and delivery improvements.
  • Proven success in managing a team, safety records and operational issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Understands, follows, and enforces all established safety, health, quality GMP and Company policies, procedures, and recognized practices.
  • Participates in brewery staff, shift and safety meetings, and conducts regular departmental meetings and training based on business needs.
  • Creates an environment of team engagement and provides supervision and mentorship to the brewing/brewing maintenance team members.
  • Develop and execute Brewing and Brewing Maintenance key KPI's while managing all issues pertinent to these areas.
  • Provides guidance and oversight for all Brewing and Brewing Maintenance associates; motivates, coaches and develops a diverse, high performing and engaged team to meet established goals and build capability.
  • Provide leadership by mentoring associates in the use of Lean tools, ensuring transfer of knowledge and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Serves as an example and provides positive support of Boston Beer Culture and Values.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are administered in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews, creates, and supports development plans for direct reports, Coach and Develop Leads and Supervisor to be Leaders in the organization.
  • Creates and fosters a team environment that demonstrates genuine concern for personal and professional development of all employees.
  • Install a culture of continuous improvements by using and coaching problem-solving skills, 5S, standard work, visual controls, leader standard work, kaizens, kanbans, and other lean tools.
  • Develop new methods and procedures to optimize brewing operations efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Work with supporting functions to develop kanbans and consumption-based replenishment techniques to suppliers for packaging materials and ingredients.
  • Develop KPIs (both managerial and operational) and Visual Controls that drive improvement in operations and allow associates to track performance to targets real time and be able to respond to abnormal conditions, identify gaps and roadblocks to successful execution of brewery KPI's and develop plans to close gaps.
  • Responsible for managing the department annual budget.
  • Taking responsibility for scope definition, capital cost estimates, operating cost savings development, investment justification, system design, cost value analysis, equipment design specifications, development of engineering design specifications, and supervision/management of outside consulting engineering firms and contractors.
  • Preparing critical coordination of brewery production scheduling, equipment vendors/manufacturers, outside contractors, and plant personnel to ensure compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
