About The Position

Alliance Medical Center is currently seeking a Part Time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BPC) (30 hours per week, .75 Part Time) for our WIC Department

What you will do at AMC:
The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor assists mothers who wish to breastfeed to succeed with their breastfeeding plans, with the goal of breastfeeding for at least one year per the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation.
This position requires being available outside of usual working hours to new mothers who are having breastfeeding problems. May include making calls from home via provided cell phone. Able and willing to travel to off-site locations.

Requirements

• Bilingual English/Spanish, both verbal and written required
• Current CPR certification.
• High School Diploma required.

Nice To Haves

• Personal experience exclusively breastfeeding a baby for at least one year is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to new mothers.
• Participates in outreach activities to promote the BFPC program
• Attend breastfeeding training classes.
• Assist with breastfeeding classes or support groups.
• Counsel pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by phone and in the WIC office.
• Input and maintain information in computer software on the BFPC and WIC WISE database.
• Refer to Lactation Consultant issues beyond scope of practice.
• Other duties as assigned.
