About The Position

The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor will join our Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Department and serve as a source of support for our mothers and families. The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is a professional who offers breastfeeding support and education to WIC participants. They provide accurate breastfeeding information to help promote breastfeeding in the community and as a peer can speak to the breastfeeding experience and provide wisdom. This part time role role is stationed in Corona, Queens. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic breastfeeding education and support to assigned WIC prenatal or breastfeeding participants.
  • Documents the contacts in productivity record and submits the productivity record weekly to supervisor.
  • Completes all assigned breastfeeding trainings.
  • Follows the Peer Counselor contact frequency guidance.
  • Receives a caseload of WIC mothers and makes routine periodic contacts with all mothers assigned.
