About The Position

Galveston County Health District is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Breastfeeding Coordinator (Designated Breastfeeding Expert) to lead and support our WIC breastfeeding program. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years breastfeeding counseling experience (WIC preferred)
  • Current or former WIC participant who has successfully breastfed at least one child
  • Strong teaching, presentation, and communication skills
  • Customer-service oriented with enthusiasm for breastfeeding education
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel as needed
  • Valid Texas driver’s license (or ability to obtain)
  • Willingness to work evenings/weekends if needed
  • Must meet immunization, background check, and screening requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • IBCLC certification preferred (or ability to obtain within one year)
  • Must complete required state trainings within one year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one breastfeeding counseling in clinics, hospitals, and by phone
  • Conduct prenatal and postpartum follow-ups with clients
  • Support mothers with complex breastfeeding challenges and provide referrals as needed
  • Educate clients and staff on breastfeeding topics and best practices
  • Coordinate hospital consultations and manage staff schedules
  • Train staff on breast pump use, issuance, and maintenance
  • Manage breast pump inventory, supplies, and reporting
  • Monitor breastfeeding rates and prepare program reports
  • Respond to After Hours Breastfeeding Helpline calls as needed
  • Conduct community outreach and support breastfeeding awareness events
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and implement improvements
  • Provide clinic support and cover for Peer Counselors as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
