Essential Job Responsibilities: Perform breast ultrasounds Ensure patients are properly prepared for exams and procedures. Ensure all finished ultrasound exams are of high diagnostic quality and all administrative work for each exam is in order. Recognize and document abnormalities and anomalies. Effectively and compassionately communicate with patients, physicians, and radiologists. Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions. Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions for image quality. Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves. Operates equipment to direct non-ionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be recorded, transmitted, and imaged for interpretation and diagnosis by a radiologist. Views the prior ultrasound imaging, and ability to correlate with mammography images. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purposes. Able to measure and communicate features of the area imaged. Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment. Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures. Other duties as assigned.
