About The Position

The Department of Surgery at The University of Wisconsin is seeking an exceptional academic surgeon with a clinical practice focused in Breast Surgery and/or Cutaneous Oncology Surgery to join our Division of Surgical Oncology . Candidates should be board-eligible or board-certified in General Surgery. Completion of a breast surgery or surgical oncology fellowship is strongly preferred but not required. We will be hiring 2 full-time surgeons to meet our clinical needs. A focused practice in breast and/or cutaneous oncology surgery is strongly preferred. Candidates could participate in the clinical care of breast disease only, cutaneous oncology only, or a mix of both. Candidates interested in providing breast clinical care should be capable of evaluating and managing benign and malignant disease of the breast. Candidates should be comfortable engaging with a cohesive, multi-disciplinary team that includes other breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, breast radiologists, reconstructive surgeons, and pathologists. Candidates interested in providing cutaneous oncology clinical care should be capable of managing a range of disease, including melanoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. Candidates should be comfortable engaging with a cohesive and multi-disciplinary team that includes other surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, reconstructive surgeons, dermatologists, and dermatopathologists. The selected finalist will have excellent communication skills and is a reliable team player. They will be able to demonstrate a track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions through education and/or research. Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor on the Clinical Health Science (CHS) track, and Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, and Clinical Professor on the Clinical Teaching (CT) Track. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. This position is full time This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and then every two years.

Requirements

  • Candidate is required to have a Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.
  • Board certification or board eligibility from the American Board of Surgery, American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, or equivalent is required by the appointment start date.
  • Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.
  • MD, DO, or Equivalent is required

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a fellowship in Surgical Oncology and/or Breast Surgery by appointment start date is strongly preferred
  • For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.
  • For an appointment at Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor rank on CT Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CT Track.

Responsibilities

  • Research Support for research and/or programmatic participation/development will also be considered.
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
  • Elective inpatient and outpatient practice will primarily occur at University Hospital and Eastpark Medical Center.
