About The Position

Description The Breast Sonographer I is an entry level position. The registered technologist will gain the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to produce diagnostic images of the breast using high-definition ultrasound equipment. This position will work under the supervision of highly skilled breast sonographers and directly or indirectly with the radiologist. Must have the skill set for excellence in communication, documentation, customer service and patient satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of a formal radiology technology training program in an AMA approved school.
  • Registered by an accredited Ultrasound program equivalent to the ARRT or ARDMS with advanced certification in sonography.
  • RT(S)(ARRT) or ARDMS or ARRT(BS) within 2 years.
  • BLS within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment and perform various breast ultrasound related procedures.
  • Prepares patient to demonstrate the desired anatomy providing for patient safety, comfort, and modesty.
  • Explain procedures and educate patients about the importance of preventive breast health and the benefits/limitations of breast ultrasound.
  • Demonstrates compassion and dignity while performing the exam.
  • Review patient’s relevant previous imaging exams prior to breast ultrasound.
  • Adjust settings for image optimization (TGC, gain, frequency, focal zone, etc. )
  • Differentiate normal anatomy from abnormal findings and communicate to the radiologist using appropriate terminology.
  • Correlate sonographic images and findings with physical findings and prior mammogram and ultrasound.
  • Identify, report and document any ultrasound equipment malfunctions.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, work area and any other areas in department.
  • Assess own learning needs, seeks appropriate training and development.
  • Maintains a positive relationship with all customers ie. patients, other departments, physicians, students, and colleagues.
