About The Position

The Department of Medicine at The University of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) is recruiting an exceptional medical oncologist, with a breast cancer research focus, to join our faculty in the Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care. This is an opportunity for an academic clinician, on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track or Clinician Teacher (CT) track to provide patient care and do scholarly work on the mechanisms underlying the development and treatment of breast cancers. Health services or clinical trial research is desired, and priority areas include genomics, precision medicine and cancer therapeutics. Interest in cellular therapy is also considered. This clinician will be active in the multi- disciplinary breast oncology program. We are ideally seeking an experienced breast cancer researcher with an interest in leading our team of investigators in multi-investigator research projects. The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center Breast Cancer research team is actively engaged in improving breast cancer outcomes through translational science. This multidisciplinary research extends across campus including the schools of Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine and engages breast cancer advocates. Horizontal collaborations include those across Wisconsin, through the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium, national oncology cooperative groups and industry partners. This position is full or part time, 80%-100%
This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.

The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law every four years. Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles: Professor (CHS), Associate Professor (CHS), Assistant Professor (CHS), Clinical Professor (CT), Clinical Associate Professor (CT,) or Clinical Assistant Professor (CT). The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

Requirements

• Board certification or board eligibility in Hematology/Medical Oncology or Medical Oncology from an accredited fellowship training program is required by the appointment start date.
• American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Certification required.
• Candidate is required to have a Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.
• Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.
• MD, DO, or equivalent is required

Nice To Haves

• Experience in an academic medical setting preferred.
• For an appointment as Associate Professor or Professor rank on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track or Clinician Teacher (CT) track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track or Clinician Teacher (CT) track.
• Clinical and research responsibilities with interest in breast medical oncology.
• Experience in clinical trials or translational research, with a track record of successful publications in peer-reviewed journals, extramural funding, strong written and verbal communication skills, evidence of excellence in teaching and high potential to obtain extramural funding.
• Through these efforts, the ability to enhance national recognition for our division and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient clinic attending services at UW Health locations in Madison and at additional sites in the region.
• Responsibilities will also include providing clinical teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as clinical research endeavors.
• Responsibilities of the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track candidate will include: 60-65% direct patient care at UW Health approved locations, including ambulatory, inpatient and consult service attending. 35-40% academic time for research activities and/or for educational and other scholarly activities, which includes pro-actively supporting efforts to improve diversity in clinical trial participants.
• Opportunities exist for pursuit of clinical research in candidate's area/s of interest.
• The candidate will lead dedicated disease-specific research staff and have access to substantial programmatic research funds.
• The successful candidate will be expected to pursue and secure independent funding to continue/develop their research.
• Administrative duties including e-Consults, committees and community service may be added as appropriate to the interests of the successful candidate.
