About The Position

Essential Functions • Technologist is responsible for checking the patient's history and marking any skin defects or other unusual findings (i.e. scars, lumps, nevi, etc.). • Explains procedures to the patient and makes patient feel comfortable in the room. • Explains exam to new patients (baseline) and returning patients if necessary, answering any questions they may have with limitations. • Performs all mammographic procedures according to established protocols. • Checks requisition to be sure the proper exam has been ordered and all pertinent information is included on the form. • The Mammography technologist will perform the exam according to referring doctor's requisition, unless otherwise advised by the Radiologist or by contacting the patient's doctor. • Enter proper information into the EMR system, making sure all exams are put into a taken status. • The Mammography technologist will review previous reports and previous images prior to beginning the exam. • The Mammography technologist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate for the age or mental status of the patient served by this department. (re: geriatric, mentally challenged patients, special needs patients, etc.) • Maintains mammography exam room in a neat and orderly fashion, ensuring proper cleaning of equipment used with each patient, following each patient, and at the end of the day per manufacturer's guidelines. • All techs will be responsible for knowing how to image a breast specimen from the O.R. according to established protocol, showing image to the Radiologist, calling report to the surgeon, documenting that the call was made. • Each Mammography technologist will be responsible for knowing how to acquire all images and positions for mammography as established by the ACR accreditation mandate and meeting MQSA guidelines. • The technologist must possess the ability to image patients with complex needs and/or possess advanced position skills based on body habitus and pathology (examples include wheelchair patients, implant patients, kyphotic/lordotic patients, among others). • The technologist will assist with stereotactic biopsies and localizations. • The technologist will need to possess the ability to operate biopsy and localization equipment. • Document daily quality control as recommended by manufacturer and maintain ACR guidelines and manufacturer guidelines. • All technologists will be held responsible for acquiring the correct and required number of continuing education credits as mandated by MQSA . • Performs other related activities as requested by the Breast Center Manager or Radiology Director • Participates in maintaining Augusta Health values, indicators, and employee expectations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Must be registered in radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology with documented Continuing Education to maintain registration/certification.
  • Must also possess advanced Mammography Registry/certification.
  • CPR certified or obtained within 30 days of hire
  • One or more years of experience in the field of Radiology
  • One or more years of Mammography experience

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree or higher
  • Completed an accredited Mammography program.
