The Breaking News Digital Subeditor position is a Full time, Regular position. Key Responsibilities: Subediting Breaking News: Review, edit, and refine breaking news articles for clarity, grammar, style, and accuracy while maintaining speed and quality during rapidly developing stories. Headline Creation & Optimization: Write and edit concise, attention-grabbing headlines for digital platforms, ensuring that they are SEO-optimized and accurate. Content Verification: Fact-check stories, verifying sources, and ensuring that all information is accurate and well-supported before publication. Proofreading: Ensure all digital content meets the publication's editorial standards, checking for typos, errors, and inconsistencies. Multimedia Coordination: Ensure that images, videos, and other multimedia elements are appropriately integrated into breaking news stories, enhancing the content and overall storytelling. Breaking News Updates: Assist in managing the continuous flow of breaking news updates, revising and expanding stories as new information becomes available. SEO and Social Media Integration: Ensure stories are optimized for search engines and social media platforms by incorporating relevant keywords, hashtags, and engaging social media-friendly headlines. Collaboration with Journalists: Work closely with reporters, writers, and editors to make sure breaking news content is published quickly and accurately. Quality Control: Maintain the highest editorial standards for accuracy, grammar, tone, and style while working under time pressure. Real-time News Monitoring: Stay updated on unfolding events and breaking news, assisting in updating and adjusting content as new developments occur. Qualifications: Experience: At least [5+] years of experience as a subeditor, editor, or reporter in a digital newsroom, preferably with experience in breaking news in a digital media environment. Skills: o Strong editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy. o Excellent understanding of journalistic ethics and editorial standards. o Proficient in SEO best practices and writing for digital platforms. o Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines, especially in a fast-paced news environment. o Experience with content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools. o Familiarity with multimedia integration, including images, videos, and social media content. Education: A degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Other: Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay calm and focused during breaking news situations.
