About The Position

M&T Bank is looking for a highly skilled Brand Designer with a passion for transforming financial services into captivating visual stories. M&T Bank is one of the nation's leading and most respected financial services institutions and we’re looking for a talented designer to join our in-house creative team and help bring our brand to life. The Brand Designer works with the Brand Design Lead and Creative Director to implement the creative execution and optimization of brand elements and brand standards and ensures that all work adheres to the governance framework that we scale across all marketing and customer experience touchpoints. The Brand Designer is part of a team of designers, writers and other creative professionals that shape and deploy our brand elements and scale brand consistency across all work. You will develop creative for a range of channels, including print, digital, OOH, campaigns, template systems and toolkits, in-branch elements and experiences and brand activations to name a few. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in graphic design, graphic communications, or related field
  • 3 years of marketing and/or design experience (Or in Lieu of a degree, a combination of 7 years of higher education and relevant experience)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in consistently scaling brand elements and identity systems, while occasionally helping to develop, evolve and build the system.
  • Proven expertise in your craft with a strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of design work, with a particular emphasis on corporate branding, visual identity systems, and complex information design.
  • Deep knowledge of all channels (e.g.: web, email, social, broadcast, video, print, outdoor, environmental, experiential, etc.)
  • Comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and personalities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and educate non-design stakeholders on brand best practices.
  • Exceptional creative problem-solving and creative presentation skills
  • Use evidence and strategy to inform your creative decisions.
  • Understanding of data visualization
  • Expert-level proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Adobe Express and Figma/Sketch.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of graphic design experience or copywriting experience and experience in a corporate or agency setting is a plus
  • Experience working in an agile environment and with agile project management tools (Jira and Confluence) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Brand Design Lead and creative team to manage the oversight, coordination, execution, and optimization of our brand standards.
  • Evangelize the brand standards, including how we educate colleagues and external partners to understand the brand, how to use our brand elements and what on-brand work looks like in practice.
  • Work with partners in marketing to ensure campaigns are consistent with all brand standards and principles and demonstrating an understanding of strategic direction and goals.
  • Present and influence with a convincing and inspiring style to increase buy-in and open the door for new opportunities - both for the creative team and brand.
  • Participate in creative project kickoffs with various stakeholders.
  • Contribute to creative concept development, informing and executing concepts and presentation of ideas.
  • Adhere to and practice the adoption of the brand recommendations for creative design, copy/content and layout as needed.
  • Collaborate and communicate with key stakeholders to ensure alignment to creative briefs and timelines as needed.
  • Leverage technical and aesthetic expertise in developing and designing visual assets.
  • Participate in collaborative brainstorming sessions.
  • Stay current with production standards, marketing channels and emerging formats.
  • Share expertise on emerging design trends and best practices that can shape the design process with the creative team.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
