About The Position

The Branch Manager at Livingston Parish Library is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the library branch located in Watson, LA. This role involves managing staff, ensuring excellent patron services, and maintaining library policies and procedures. The Branch Manager will also have the opportunity to expand and lead services at the branch, catering to a diverse community that includes children and students. This full-time position offers a chance to engage with the community and enhance library services.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited library school.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a library setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of library principles, methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to plan, lead, and supervise the work of others.
  • Tact and courtesy in dealing with staff and patrons.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and speak effectively in public.
  • Good professional judgment and management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee staff, building, and patron services at the branch.
  • Train new employees and re-train existing staff on policies and procedures.
  • Arrange staff schedules for optimal coverage and service.
  • Encourage, motivate, coach, discipline, and evaluate employees.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely submission of payroll and leave records.
  • Keep Library Administration informed of branch projects and issues.
  • Maintain knowledge of library policies and procedures.
  • Interpret library policies and resolve staff and patron complaints.
  • Follow money reporting policies and procedures for the branch.
  • Perform ongoing collection development.
  • Notify appropriate personnel of maintenance and repair needs of the building and grounds.
  • Supervise library staff, custodial workers, community service workers, and volunteers.
  • Assist in planning and executing art shows, classes, lectures, and seminars.
  • Plan and execute programs and events designed for adults and seniors.
  • Have daily oversight of all branch library functions, ensuring effective service to patrons and efficient use of resources.
  • Step into any staff position as needed during absences or high demand.
