The Grand Glaize Branch is seeking a full time Branch Manager to supervise the operation and maintenance of the branch to provide quality Library service to all Library customers. The mission of the St. Louis County Library is to provide the resources and services to enrich individual minds, enhance lives and expand perspectives. We have transformed into a meaningful community resource with updated facilities and an array of programs and partnerships that serve over 860,000 patrons.

  • Supervises staff to ensure the smooth operation of the branch.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of the branch building and grounds to provide a clean and safe environment for Library customers and staff.
  • Plans, develops, and facilitates programming, or supervises this activity, to respond to the needs of the community.
  • Monitors, maintains, and organizes the collection to respond to the unique needs of the community.
  • Interprets policy and procedures, and participates in administrative functions to connect the branch to the system.
  • Provides assistance to customers to ensure quality service.
  • Master’s Degree in Library Science
  • Two-three years previous work experience in a supervisory capacity within a library
  • Ability to supervise, train, and motivate staff
  • Must possess a commitment to a high level of public service to Library customers
  • Must possess good judgment, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Must possess excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work effectively with other Library managers in a professional manner
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to stand up to 8 hours per shift
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Ability to concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously in busy atmosphere with continual interruptions
  • Ability to think creatively to solve problems and improve service
  • Ability to deal sensitively and tactfully with customers and staff
  • Ability to operate various types of Library equipment
  • Ability to use electronic hardware and software
  • Ability to push a full cart of books or other Library materials
  • Ability to bend to very low shelves or reach to very high shelves when retrieving Library materials
  • Ability to use a pc, word processing and e-mail
