About The Position

As a Brake Test Engineer, you will develop brake systems through subjective and objective in-house testing for Hyundai/KIA/Genesis NA vehicles. You will collaborate with and support the Vehicle Test and Development Teams, global brake engineering groups, and the marketing and quality divisions with braking efforts. Your role will involve providing experience and perspective on understanding the North American market, particularly customer usage and expectations. You will conduct objective benchmarking of competitor vehicles and quantify Hyundai/Kia/Genesis products at specified development gateway points. Additionally, you will support customer preference studies and turn subjective targets developed in benchmarking activities into measurable development parameters. Your responsibilities will also include performing brake-related testing and data analysis, supporting the development of NA-specific braking aspects, including pedal feel and regenerative braking controls, and developing in-house testing while specifying and procuring test-specific instrumentation as needed. You will assist in planning and monitoring the team budget, create and present technical reports as assigned, and mentor junior engineers on best practices while facilitating on-the-job learning. The position requires travel up to 30%, both domestically and internationally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field of study
  • 3+ years of experience testing and evaluating vehicle dynamics
  • 5+ years of brake testing and development experience
  • Well-versed with brake evaluation principles and practices concerning automotive vehicle dynamics
  • Vast knowledge of SAE and FMVSS test procedures and methods relating to automotive braking
  • Adept at working with automotive data acquisition systems and sensors, such as CAN bus
  • Proficient driving skills
  • Knowledge of electrified vehicle architecture (i.e., brake-by-wire and regenerative braking systems)
  • Capability of working in extreme temperatures, ranging from -40º F (in the winter) to +120º F (in the summer)
  • Ability to work up to an altitude of 14,000 feet
  • Familiarity with Microsoft programs, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Flexibility with program and process changes
  • Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
  • Project management experience
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
