Braille Assistant - Castle South MS
About The Position
Essential Duties and Responsibilities under the direction of the teacher for the visually impaired and the classroom teacher, may provide individual or small group instruction to students with visual impairment to assist them in accessing curriculum and understanding instructional concepts assists teaching staff with preparation of classroom and teaching materials utilize and assist in use of specialized computers, software, and other braille devices assists with the instruction and supervision of student who is severely visually impaired supervises and provides mobility assistance for student as needed on playgrounds, at lunch time, field trips, and in other appropriate educational settings assists student with utilizing Braille for instruction braille transcribing support Assist with any other duties directed by the school administrators as they would relate to instruction of students.
Requirements
- Must be willing to learn Grade II UEB braille, taught on the job
- Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
- Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; or
- Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).
