About The Position

The Brachytherapy Nurse supports our practice by providing clinical expertise and advisory support for brachytherapy procedures. This role reviews and recommends updates to protocols, assists with radiation safety and quality assurance activities, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient care. This position is essential in ensuring safe, high-quality brachytherapy services, supporting team workflows, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.

Requirements

  • Current RN license
  • Experience in radiation oncology and brachytherapy preferred
  • Knowledge of radiation safety principles and clinical quality standards
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work independently and provide expert consultation on brachytherapy practices
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the OR or procedural suite for extended periods as needed.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25–50 lbs (equipment, supplies, or patient positioning assistance as required).
  • Manual dexterity to handle instruments, equipment, and documentation tools.
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to monitor patient condition, read monitors, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to don appropriate personal protective equipment and follow radiation safety protocols.
  • May require bending, stooping, reaching, and occasional climbing of stairs in the clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the clinical expert on brachytherapy workflows, radiation safety protocols, and patient care standards.
  • Collaborate with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and surgical teams to support coordinated patient care.
  • Review, develop, and recommend updates to evidence-based clinical policies, procedures, and treatment protocols.
  • Support radiation safety procedures, including time-out protocols, source tracking, and posttreatment verifications.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, safety rounds, audits, and accreditation reviews.
  • Assist with incident reporting and root cause analyses, providing recommendations for corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Provide occasional procedural support in the OR for brachytherapy cases as needed.
  • Advise on coordination of equipment, implants, radiation sources, and supplies in collaboration with materials management and physics
  • Identify opportunities to enhance workflow efficiency, clinical outcomes, and patient experience.
