About The Position

GRADE 13 LOCATION OF POSITION Annapolis, Maryland POSITION DUTIES Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman serves as one of three members on the Board of Public Works, which also includes Governor Wes Moore and State Treasurer Dereck Davis. The Board of Public Works is responsible for approving billions of dollars in annual State spending, overseeing the issuance of bonds, and acquiring and transferring State property. The BPW Dashboard Analyst is responsible for the management, quality assurance, and analysis of historical data from Board of Public Works meeting agendas. The position will ensure that the data is accurate and will integrate into a public facing dashboard, allowing for greater transparency into Maryland’s expenditures. The analyst will primarily work with the Comptroller’s BPW Director and Coordinator and the Information Technology Division to facilitate publication of the data and coordinate with external agencies for review and approvals. The BPW Dashboard Analyst will be responsible for collaborating with the Information Technology Division and COMStat team on identifying updates and improvements on the data presentation and visualizations. The analyst will also be responsible for other related data analysis, presentations, written reports, and dashboard technical assistance, including demonstrations and webinars, as needed. Duties for this position include but are not limited to the following: Develops methods and procedures for collection, cleaning, and analysis of Board of Public Works data for publication on the external BPW Dashboard. Performs data cleaning and analysis. Ensures that the data is presented in an accurate and user-friendly manner for public stakeholders, including vendors, elected officials, taxpayers and other interested parties. Confers with Deputy Comptroller, BPW Director, BPW Coordinator and staff in order to assess the data requirements and coordination with the Board of Public Works staff. Coordinates with the BPW Director on data review and approval by the BPW Dashboard governance council, which includes the BPW representatives from the Offices of the Treasurer and Governor. Collaborates with the IT Division and COMStat teams on the technical requirements and best practices for the BPW dashboard, including identifying updates or revisions to improve the presentation of the data and visualizations based on user feedback. Interprets findings and prepares final written reports and/or data presentations as needed. Serves as the point of contact for all public inquiries regarding the BPW dashboard. Performs other data analysis related duties.

Requirements

  • Education: A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of nine credit hours, or the equivalent graduate credit hours in research methodology, theoretical or applied statistics or measurement theory.
  • Experience: None.
  • NOTE: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Statistician classifications or Statistician and Intelligence Officer specialty codes in the Statistics field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
