About The Position

Planet Aid is a nonprofit organization that collects and recycles used textiles to protect the environment and support sustainable development in impoverished communities around the world is seeking a full-time Driver. Reporting to the Operations Manager. The driver position has the responsibility of assisting in the transportation of donated materials, as well as, the loading and unloading of materials from company trucks. The transportation responsibility of driving trucks of multiple sizes up to 26-foot box trucks and transporting material from host locations to Planet Aid Business Unit; the driver will service the sites and routes provided by Planet Aid. The employee will be responsible for collecting all bagged and loose clothes/shoes in and around the bins. The driver will also be responsible for the proper maintenance of the sites which includes cleaning and collecting all and disposing of any unusable items in and around the bins. The primary responsibility will be warehouse work, with driving required only as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Degree and 1 year of driving small commercial trucks or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret maps and GPS technology
  • Complete paperwork accurately and completely and understand the importance of detail
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, supervisors and employees
  • Must be able to read, speak, write and understand Basic English
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and a DOT physical
  • Have a good driving record without major incidents that meets Planet Aid’s insurability standard
  • Adhere to and enforce all safety procedures
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekend hours when requested to meet business needs
  • Demonstrate safe driving skills
  • Capable of operating a large box truck in congested Metropolitan areas
  • Prepared to work in any traffic or weather conditions according to the pickup locations
  • Follow directions and possess a 'can do' attitude

  • Provide good customer service and the ability to communicate verbally with customers in a professional manner
  • Service the donation bins designated on a route daily
  • Empty the donation bin, clean and collect eventual rubbish disposed of in and around the bins
  • Communicate with management any problem or safety preoccupation taken
  • Must be prepared and flexible to perform associated and related job functions that are not specifically identified in this job description
