About The Position

The Restoration Ecologist/Botanist performs technical work supporting ecological restoration and ecosystem management initiatives. This role includes oversight of restoration activities, monitoring and reporting on restoration projects, conducting botanical surveys, and contributing to restoration planning and site-specific design. The position supports conservation of native flora, implementation of rare and endangered species management programs, and collaboration with federal and state agencies on ecosystem management initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in ecology, botany, or a related environmental field.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license.
  • Must be able to maintain a DoD security clearance
  • US Citizen

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing ecological restoration projects.
  • Experience conducting biological field surveys and vegetation monitoring using methods such as line-intercept, transect, and/or releve techniques.
  • Experience using GPS units and electronic field data collection devices.
  • Knowledge of major federal and state environmental agencies (e.g., U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Tennessee Division of Natural Areas).
  • Familiarity with key regulatory frameworks such as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical work related to restoration project implementation, monitoring, reporting, and maintenance activities.
  • Provide input for landscape-level restoration planning and site-specific restoration design.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and advance a comprehensive integrated ecosystem management program for the conservation of flora species.
  • Implement rare, threatened, and endangered plant species management programs.
  • Conduct botanical surveys and listed species surveys.
  • Participate in the development of conservation plans and habitat management plans.
  • Assist with and support prescribed burn programs.
  • Monitor vegetation and ecosystem health using established field methods.
  • Engage and collaborate with federal and state agencies in ecosystem management processes.
  • Maintain accurate field data, monitoring records, and reporting documentation.
