How does it feel to work on a team driven to make a big impact? Empowering. BAE Systems in York, Pennsylvania is seeking an experienced Boring Mill / CNC Operator to support on 3rd shift. In this role as a Boring Mill / CNC Operator, you will set up and operate various types of boring mills (individually and/or cellular) to perform such operations as boring holes, machining castings, forgings, weldments, large assemblies, subassemblies, plates and pre-machined parts to conform to drawing specifications. In addition, you'll set up and operate various types of NC and CNC equipment to perform operations such as drilling milling, boring, tapping chamfering, counter boring, undercutting, punching, forming crimping and bending on a variety of materials. You'll receive instructions and work orders from the Process Supervisor, Assistant Process Supervisor, Lead Person, or your self-directed Work Team.

Requirements

  • Must have 31 months of CNC operator experience.
  • Typically requires a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to work 3rd shift (10 PM to 6 AM on a 5/40 schedule).
  • This job is required to operate in a manufacturing environment, where use of respiratory protection may be required.
  • Individuals required to wear respiratory protection must achieve medical approval and pass fit testing.
  • Must be capable of working with tools ranging from various sizes and types of horizontal and vertical boring mills, boring bars, clamps, fixtures, angle plates, templates NC and CNC equipment perishable tooling, chucks, dies, grinders, sanders and various hand tools (i.e. wrenches, pliers, etc.), measuring and test equipment (i.e. Versa and height gauges).
  • Basic personal computer skills and/or experience working with data acquisition devices (i.e. bar-coding and data-myte).

  • 5 to 7 years of equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and analyze requirements for proper tooling, perform checks and adjust processes as required maintaining tolerances.
  • Handle material to/from work area, within department, using jib or overhead cranes or other material handling equipment, as required.
  • Refer to drawings, sketches, manuals, books, charts, military specifications and process sheets.
  • Submit first piece to Inspection as required.
  • Ensure specification conformance of product, process and workmanship and document findings on personal computers and/or other data acquisition devices as required.
  • Perform de-burring operations with miscellaneous hand tools.
  • Perform checks on equipment to maintain efficient and safe operations and report deficiencies.
  • Check fluid levels, add coolant and change external air filters as required.
  • Report low oil levels.
  • Keep and maintain a safe and clean work area.
