About The Position

The successful candidate will provide avionics systems engineering support to the customer’s Avionics Systems Integration Element Design Lead for the Space Launch System (SLS) Solid Rocket Booster within the NASA Space Systems Department, to include the SLS Block 1, Block 1B and future configurations. Tasks include, but are not be limited to: avionics systems hardware and software requirements development, coordinating scheduling, coordinating meetings, test support, tracking action items, assisting in planning activities, provided insight to hardware and software integration activities, supporting trade studies, performing systems analyses, supporting avionics hardware/software design solutions, providing engineering insight for flight avionics, making risk management inputs, coordinating technical performance measures, supporting reviews, working groups and boards, and providing periodic status inputs to project and management. The successful candidate will be required to provide leadership and mentor less experienced personnel during development, integration, deployment and operation life cycles. This position is ½ time possibly growing to fulltime.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Education: a Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in an engineering or science discipline. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum 14 years of experience, Master's Degree with at least 18 years of experience, or Bachelor's with at least 20 years of experience.
  • Candidate must have experience in space systems avionics and software requirements, design, trade studies, milestone reviews, interface definition, change management, risk management, and safety.
  • Candidate will be able to review avionics products and provide relevant feedback, have good coordination and communication skills, be pro-active, multitask and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Previous experience with booster avionics desired but not required.
