About The Position

Under the direction of the bookstore manager, the bookstore clerk is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations and activities of the bookstore relating to register and cash handling, credit card transactions, inventory and stocking of merchandise.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
  • Job duties require specific retail experience and practices, typically learned on the job or which may include a series of training sessions that would comprise a few weeks if done consecutively.
  • Possesses entry level work-related skills, including written and verbal communications skills, and computer skills.
  • Six months of previous customer service and retail experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to prepare documents in Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel to review and compile data.
  • Ability to create basic presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for book store day to day operations.
  • Create a welcoming and hospitable environment promoting excellent customer service.
  • Perform activities in preparation for opening/closing the store including: working the point of sale register, counting cash register tills and preparing deposits.
  • Maintain records related to sales and inventory.
  • Maintain expertise of products and assist customers on the sales floor.
  • Assist with regularly changing displays to promote the bookstore merchandise.
  • Assist with ensuring the store layout is attractive, clean and displays are replenished.
  • Answer telephone calls and promptly respond to customer inquiries.
  • Comply with all employee related reporting and tracking.
  • Support the development of book store sales and activities.
  • Assist the manager to achieve bookstore goals.
  • Assist customers in selecting merchandise; greet customers; take customer orders; operate and process payments across multiple platforms, and maintain records of all cash and charge transactions.
  • Support book store activities and events.
  • Assist the bookstore manager with planning and executing events.
  • Maintain inventory of vended and specialty items.
  • Work to attract new customers and expanding activities that engage the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
