About The Position

UCLA Extension is seeking an experienced instructor for the Bookkeeping and Accounting Essentials II course, which is the second part of a two-course sequence. This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of advanced bookkeeping and accounting principles. The curriculum includes topics such as accounting for promissory notes, valuation of accounts receivable, and various methods of depreciation for property, plant, and equipment. In addition, the course covers partnership and corporation accounting, including capital stock, earnings, distributions, and the issuance of corporate bonds. Students will also learn how to prepare a statement of cash flows and gain a basic understanding of financial statement analysis. A significant component of the course is the use of Excel spreadsheets tailored for bookkeeping tasks, which will help students apply their knowledge practically in the workforce. Instructors are expected to create a collaborative and inclusive learning environment that supports the diverse backgrounds of UCLA Extension students. They will utilize case studies and real-life examples to enhance the learning experience, ensuring that students can translate theoretical knowledge into practical skills. Instructors will be responsible for developing and updating the course syllabus, preparing and delivering course materials, and utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System for course support. They will also evaluate student performance, assign grades, and respond to student inquiries in a timely manner. Staying current with developments in the field and participating in required training programs are also essential duties of the instructor role. This position requires a commitment to teaching in-person in Westwood for one night per week, and instructors must demonstrate proficiency in the subject area, effective communication skills, and the ability to engage students through interactive activities. The role is governed by contract terms and conditions, and instructors are expected to adhere to UCLA Extension's policies on access, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
