About The Position

The Assists Sergeant position involves bonding and booking inmates, as well as processing paperwork for files. The role includes booking new inmates, receiving bonds from bonding companies, and matching bonds to warrants and complaints. Daily deposits, filing, processing cash fines and bonds, and managing the David Criner cash bond account are also part of the responsibilities. The position requires the individual to book subjects into jail, which includes fingerprinting, photographing, and inventorying property. Additionally, the role involves handling inmate cash accounts, notarizing documents, and enforcing various laws and codes.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or its equivalent.
  • Knowledge of procedures relating to bonding, standard office practices, and basic bookkeeping procedures.
  • Ability to operate computers, including word processing software, and read and understand legal documents.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, county employees, and bonding company personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Books subjects into jail, including fingerprinting, photographing, and taking inventory of property.
  • Receives bonds from bonding companies and enters them into the computer.
  • Receives cash for fines or cash bonds and enters it into the computer.
  • Receives money from the public to put into inmates' cash accounts.
  • Types cash bonds and releases property to inmate's family or friends, updating the computer accordingly.
  • Handles inmate cash accounts, counting monies and comparing with receipts.
  • Answers phone and works the bonding window.
  • Notarizes documents as needed.
  • Processes bonds, checking for accuracy and entering all bonds into the bond database.
  • Processes Bail Bond Fee, including counting money for fees and making deposits.
  • Counts money received into the facility for inmates and makes daily deposits to the Inmate Trust Account.
  • Answers questions for bail bond companies and prepares monthly reports for bondsmen.
  • Refunds money to defendants on dismissed charges from the cash bond account.
  • Sends cash bond account money to respective courts when charges are filed.
  • Schedules and oversees family, law enforcement, and attorney visitation.
  • Monitors department websites for accuracy and timely updates.
  • Enforces proper consulate notification procedures and verifies warrants, detainers, and other agency holds.
  • Maintains regular and timely attendance and abides by all relevant laws and policies.
