1st Shift Book Binding Machine Operator

DIY Media Group has an immediate opening for a Book Binding Machine Operator in the BookBaby Print Shop at our Pennsauken, NJ facility. Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of machine operation experience.
- Language – Must be able to take direction and communicate in Basic English as well as read and understand written documents.
- Math – Must be able to use and understand simple mathematics, using addition, subtraction, fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of the Standard/Imperial measuring system is required, and knowledge of the metric system is a plus.
- Understanding and use of basic measuring instruments required; micrometers, digital calipers, tape measure is required.
- Have reasonable organizational skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to earn pallet jack certification with training provided by DIY.
- This position requires standing/walking for the full 8+ hour shift.
- The work involves extended periods of repetitive motion.
- Walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
Nice To Haves
- Prior book manufacturing equipment experience, such as working with print binding or finishing, is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Follow all safety procedures at all times, including lock-out tag-out procedures, any time the equipment is being cleaned or maintained.
- Follow standard work; retrieve and load materials; and prep jobs for converting.
- Operate production equipment for one or more processes, including printing, laminating, cutting, end sheet fabrication, perfect binding, case making, casing binding, and associated support equipment.
- Communicate orally or in writing about process changes and equipment failures.
- Monitor the quality of product and report all variations to manager.
- Participate in Lean and Continuous improvement events and initiatives.
- Work in a manner that is in alignment with DIY’s values.
