The following is a job description applicable to our experienced Boilermakers. The position requires experience with the operation of boilers, pumps, and boiler ancillary equipment. Candidates must be capable of performing maintenance on these systems and must hold a certification in the 6G welding position, with the ability to be certified as an employee of our company. Responsibilities include performing repairs on boilers and pressure vessels according to ASME Code of Construction and NBIC procedures, as well as repairing or replacing refractory, gaskets, parts, and miscellaneous valves. Additional tasks involve performing hydrostatic pressure testing of boilers and pressure vessels, opening and inspecting boilers, and understanding their design and construction. Candidates should be able to identify telltale signs of potential problems with boilers and pressure vessels, such as tube leakage, scaling, pitting, metals discoloration, and refractory failures. Cleaning of the fire and watersides, installing new gaskets, and performing refractory repairs and replacements are also required. Knowledge in water treatment and its relation to equipment operation is essential, as is the ability to troubleshoot valves and safety devices. Candidates must be capable of reading and understanding mechanical drawings and making modifications to equipment as per these drawings. Pipe fitting to ASME, state, and local codes is also necessary. Evaluating basic boiler room systems (steam and hydronic), gathering information, and helping to solve problems are part of the role. Attention to detail in completing work orders, forms, summaries, and checklists is crucial, along with strong language skills and industry-specific vocabulary. Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills are also required.
