About The Position

Operates automatically fired boilers to generate steam that supplies heat or power for buildings or industrial processes by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Starts gas or oil-fired boilers. Monitors pressure temperature and draft meters on panel to verify specified operation of automatic combustion control systems feed water regulators and burners. Turns valves and adjusts controls to set specified fuel feed draft openings water level and steam pressure of the boiler. Observe boiler and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions and make repairs such as changing burners and tightening pipes and fittings. Tests and treats boiler feed water. Maintains log of meter and gauge readings and records data such as water test results and quantity of fuel consumed. These are also required by our Air Permit through ADEM. Operating knowledge of high-pressure steam systems including condensate pumps air compressors mechanical and pneumatic valves and interrelated equipment.

Requirements

  • 1 year of industrial maintenance work experience required.
  • Able to use various power and hand tools to troubleshoot and repair all boiler-related processes and supportive equipment.
  • Ability to read analyze and interprets general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must be able to follow Standard Operational Procedures SOPs.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Maintain an updated forklift driver's license renewable every 3 years.
  • Have the knowledge ability and expertise to obtain a boiler operator's license with the appropriate agency.
  • Be able to work long hours climb stairs and ladders and tow a water hose.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop kneel crouch or crawl.
  • The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • This is for Plant A, Shift D: 4 Days on, 3 Days off from 6 pm to 6 am, with a rotating schedule every 8 weeks.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
