About The Position

The Boiler Operator controls the operations of the Boiler station by closely monitoring boilers and associated plant, undertaking duties which will ensure that the plant is both safe and reliable and maintain good housekeeping in the boiler area. During repair season the Boiler Operator is responsible for the maintenance, and repairs of boilers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or GED)
  • Journeyman level skills and three (3) to five (5) years of previous related experience in steam and gas-powered Boiler-Room Operations at an industrial facility.
  • Must be able to receive and carry out verbal instructions, operate various types of equipment including welding machines, cutting torches.
  • Able to read / interpret diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manuals.

  • Bilingual – English and Spanish, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely carry out operations following procedures and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Complete log and provide advice on quality and performance matters as well as maintenance and machinery defects as required.
  • Operates boilers and checks for the proper burning of bagasse.
  • Cross train employees in your department in all aspects of Boiler operations including but not limited to preventative observations of water levels, gas consumption, and temperatures of boilers.
  • Operate equipment to safely achieve throughput, efficiency, and quality targets.
  • Regularly monitor the state of operations in the field to optimize product quality, station performance and operation.
  • Monitor and check all boiler station auxiliary equipment including fans and feedwater pumps; ash handling plant; bagasse handling system; boiler submerged belts.
  • Maintain the operation of the cooling water and sluicing water systems at the boiler station.
  • Clear chokes and blockages from bagasse feeders and generally inspect the operation of the feeders.
  • Relieve the Water Tender/Central Control Room Operator.
  • Assist in boiler light up and shut down.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.
