About The Position

The Assistant Boiler Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of the steam generation plant by assisting the Boiler Operator in controlling the operations of the Boiler station and by closely monitoring boilers and associated plant. The role includes undertaking duties that ensure the plant is both safe and reliable while maintaining good housekeeping in the boiler area. During repair season, the assistant boiler operator assists mechanics in the maintenance and repairs of boilers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED (or equivalent experience).
  • Mechanically inclined with intermediate level skills.
  • One (1) year of previous boiler assistance or maintenance experience.
  • Must have intermediate mechanical aptitude.
  • Able to safely operate a forklift, use various hand and power tools, drill press, measuring tape and level.
  • Effective communication skills and understanding of mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read schematics and diagrams.
  • Basic computer skills and intermediate welding and cutting skills.
  • Bilingual and Biliterate – English and Spanish, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect proper fuel burning on boiler furnace.
  • Operate Boiler Soot blowers.
  • Check rounds on proper operation of bagasse conveyors.
  • Check for proper operation on bagasse feeders.
  • Keep clean and ensure proper operation of boiler grates.
  • Register operation records in report sheets approved.
  • Assist in boiler light up and shut down.
  • Monitor and check all boiler station auxiliary equipment including bagasse handling system; troubleshoot malfunctions, pumps, valves, gauges, burners, and other components of boilers.
  • Provide mechanical assistance – repair and maintenance – to the Boiler Room operation, including general repair and maintenance of all Boiler Room equipment.
  • Have good knowledge and skill set of the maintenance and operation of the scrubbers and flush system.
  • Relieve the Water attendant/Control Room Operator as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and perform all work per established safety procedures.
  • Perform other related projects and assignments as business dictates.
