BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION: The P IT TRAVELING MAINTENANCE Department of the P GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt) BOILER MECHANIC JOB FUNCTION: Installs and maintains generating station piping, mechanical and structural equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of applicable apprentice program or equivalent training and experience.
  • Must pass Company Written Job Knowledge Test (Journeyman, 1st year).

Responsibilities

  • Performs mechanical maintenance on power plant equipment, such as boilers, air heaters, sootblowers, fans, heat exchangers, travelling screens, valves and piping.
  • Trains to become qualified as a pipefitter mechanic.
  • Works from blueprints, sketches, instruction manuals and written or oral instructions.
  • Installs equipment.
  • Performs steel erection and rigging work.
  • Occasionally performs general non-code welding, including operation of stud gun.
  • Installs replacement piping.
  • Performs burning used in the dismantling of piping or equipment or the rough sizing of pipe, plate, bars, etc., where the quality of the cutting is not important.
  • Performs maintenance on buildings and structures.
  • Does concrete work including the construction of forms, installation of steel, and cement finishing.
  • Operates material handling and other equipment as required.
  • Performs minor non-asbestos insulation removal incidental to the performance of maintenance tasks.
  • Records a description of work completed.
  • Directs the work of personnel in lower classifications on any or all of the above operations.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
