About The Position

As a Commercial Boiler Install Technician at GEM, you will be responsible for the layout, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of piping systems in commercial, mechanical, and industrial environments. This includes boiler systems, water heaters, gas piping, and venting in accordance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and applicable codes. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality workmanship. Also has experience as a Commercial Boiler Installer - Mechanical Rooms.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possess a RI and/or MA Journeyman Pipefitter and/or Plumber License
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • 3-10 years of hands-on experience in commercial or industrial pipefitting.
  • Experience with Commercial Boiler Install and Mechanical Rooms
  • Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills, including PI&D familiarity.
  • Proficient in pipe installation methods: grooved, threaded, welded, brazed, soldered.
  • Ability to work with various piping materials (e.g., mechanical, process, petroleum systems).
  • Experience using standard hand and power tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, jobsite awareness, and team communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding experience and certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out and install commercial piping systems per engineering drawings, blueprints, and PI&Ds.
  • Install and replace forced hot water and steam boiler systems, including combination heat and domestic hot water systems.
  • Perform system start-ups, safety checks, and basic troubleshooting of boiler and mechanical systems.
  • Install and replace all types of water heaters, including: Atmospheric Electric Power vent Indirect-fired Tankless/on-demand systems
  • Ensure proper venting, operation, and code compliance on all boiler and water heater installations.
  • Install and modify gas piping systems per project specifications and Massachusetts Plumbing Code.
  • Install and inspect flue venting systems including natural draft, power vented, and direct vent setups.
  • Ensure all gas and flue piping meets NFPA 54 (National Fuel Gas Code) and NFPA 58 (Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code) standards.
  • Assemble, install, and secure pipes, valves, and fittings using welding, soldering, brazing, or mechanical methods.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to specified dimensions.
  • Conduct hydrostatic and pressure tests to confirm system integrity.
  • Modify and maintain existing piping systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized jobsite; complete all required project documentation.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with field leaders, project managers, and other trades.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and maintain OSHA compliance.
